St. John’s Anglican Church
36 Grey St, Clarence Town
Pastor: Rev Neville Schofield

Service Times: Every Sunday, Holy Communion at 10am followed by morning tea.

We had a wonderful celebration for our Op Shop’s 25th birthday in October. It was also wonderful to have our dear friend Lee Howie come down from Queensland and have about 10 days with us, catching up with all her friends and church family. Not to mention the numerous games of scrabble that we played together. Something we both miss because we don’t have scrabble partners.

It has become quite dry as all gardeners will know. Seems strange to need rain (at the time of writing) after all the rain that we have had. Still quite moist deep down though.

Thank you to all the people who give of their time and energy to support our church of St. John’s. We may only be a small band, but we ‘get the jobs done’. Thank you so much.

We are currently investigating the repairs to our beautiful stained glass window of “The Good Samaritan”. It has been quite the saga. A difficult job, I think, to do without causing the window too much more damage. We still don’t have a minister, but hopefully and prayerfully, someone will feel called to come to our Parish to minister here with us. It would be lovely to happen before Christmas! We are very thankful for the retired clergy who have come to minister with us in the meantime.

Now, I notice in Gillian’s report that she hasn’t mentioned some very important things. Our Op Shop was actually her idea 28 years ago. Our Parish was very short of funds back then, and Gillian and her husband, Eric, loaned our Parish the money to purchase 4 clothing bins for some of our centres. We operated in our hall for two years before the current building was erected. Gillian has been our coordinator and as I call her (quality control) person for all of these years, coming across from Booral each week (and sometimes more), and sorting through all the donations, cutting up all the rag, collecting all manner of items for our mission projects and lots, lots more, and now still doing all of that at 87 years of age. She is an amazing, inspiring person who is always looking after the needs of others. Thank you Gillian. You are one of God’s favourites.

Now about Christmas – Our Christmas service will be at 5.30pm on Christmas Eve so please come along and join us. We are air-conditioned!

Have a wonderful Christmas with your family and friends. Take care travelling, and god bless.
