Preserving Our Past, Sharing Our Stories

“Only recently did Clarence Town CWA join the Dungog branch. And they celebrate 100 years in 2027.”

Those were the last two sentences of the previous Report and it evoked a response from a current member, namely that it’s inaccurate. As membership declined in recent years in both branches, Clarence Town and Dungog amalgamated. For years monthly meeting were held in even months (February, April …) in Dungog, and odd months (March, May …) in Clarence Town.

The process has begun of returning the cinema equipment to its original home in the School of Arts. It would be wonderful if anyone has any photos which could be copied, taken when the Empire Theatre, as it was known, is showing a movie. The Cinema and Theatre Historical Society of Australia states that films were shown here from 1915 to 1962.

Dungog Tourism’s proposal to construct podcasts about Dungog Shire, to be aired initially on Radio Dungog, has now reached fruition. By the time of publication of Sentinel, you may have heard one or all!

The Museum has gladly contributed to this.

Open the last Sat of each month, 10am–2pm or by appt.
