Empowering Women at Destiny Haven & Shaping Our Strategic Future
So it’s past the middle of the year already. Where does the time go? If you don’t keep working to progress your projects, it quickly becomes too late to do them! DDCC held its last networking dinner in May at Destiny Haven, the women’s residential life skills program that operates at Brookfield. There was a good turn up, a great meal was provided by the ladies, and some telling stories given about the typical backgrounds of those seeking the help of the program and facility. Destiny Haven is a residential program for women overcoming life-controlling challenges such as addiction, eating disorders and self-harm. Their vision is to see broken lives restored to their full potential. Through a structured life skills program, their dedicated team provides professional, physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual care. Every woman receives the support she needs to heal, grow and step confidently into her future. All this is achieved without government funding support! You can provide valuable support to Destiny Haven by simply dropping in when you are passing and purchasing from their great range of home-made chocolates, gourmet preserves, one-of-a-kind jewellery and other handicrafts, or having a cup of coffee. Most of the DDCC’s attention over the last couple of months has been conducting and assessing a survey of members opinions about what the DDCC does. This was done as a part of our strategic review of the Chamber and its operations. With a bit of prompting, we received a fairly good return of survey responses (43 in total that included 28 current members). The good news is that over 70% of members who responded are very satisfied with their membership and 96% are intending to continue their membership. Nonetheless some good ideas were put forward about how the DDCC can improve its operations and services to its members. The Committee is currently reviewing these ideas and looking at how they can be implemented. Unfortunately, like most volunteer run organisations, DDCC has limited resources and can never do as much as it would like. We will be trying to identify the most high value, high impact services for local businesses in the Dungog Shire, and concentrating on those. Stay tuned to DDCC’s social media channels for updates on these exciting events.
