Did you know that Clarence Town has its own community garden? Our garden was established in October 2024 and is open and available to anyone in the community to plant, harvest, weed and pick from in true collaborative style. The garden is nestled in between the Tennis Courts and the Senior Citizens Building. Born out of Rural Aid’s ‘Community Builders’ program the garden was initiated by Michael & Sacha Anderson, Trudy Balstad, and many others, along with generous support from the Seniors group to use their existing bed.
To date we have hosted sunny planting days, community working bees, pick-your-own flowers, seasonal produce processing days, hands-on trellis building and youth week microbial magic activities!
By the time this goes to print, we will have hosted a summer working bee to weed the garden and apply a thick layer of forest mulch to help control the weeds, improve the topsoil and make future weeding easier! Our major upcoming project is to install a rainwater tank to collect water from the Seniors building to make watering the plants more efficient and easier. This upgrade is made possible by our successful application to Hunter Water’s ‘Love Water’ grant!
To join our mailing list please email ct.communityofgardens@gmail. com and follow us on Facebook at Clarence Town . Community of Gardens. Our garden is open to all 24/7, please feel welcome to contribute in any way you would like. Why not call in and take a look the next time you are walking to the monthly markets?!
