Clarence Town Courthouse Museum: A Peak into the Past

Robyn, Lyn, James, and Jack represented the Clarence Town Museum at Tocal’s Peak into the Past event on Sunday 26th July, setting up a stall and selling merchandise. The event was a fantastic experience, especially for our two young ambassadors, who explored the many facets of colonial life on display.

There was a query about the naming of one of Clarence Towns early hotels. This hotel had been in the lady’s family in the 1880’s and burnt down in 1912. Yours truly was able to explain the name change, as it was built by one of my distant uncles in 1855, and show her a picture of the hotel in a book we were selling – which she then bought!

Our ambassadors are planning a Christmas event and, also exploring the option of another workshop at the museum in a few months involving Dungog’s Men’s Shed. More on that later! Electrical upgrades to power points and lighting are planned soon, as some cabling is very old by today’s standards.

Open the 2nd Sat of each month, 10am–2pm or by appointment.

Museum Committee Secretary
