Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL) is now available throughout the Dungog Shire. One of the best things you can do for your child is to read to them. Did you know that 50% of our brain development occurs before the age of 3? That is, before a child starts pre-school and long before they start school. By the time they turn 5 their brain is almost fully developed. Babies and children enrolled in the program receive an age-appropriate book in the mail each month until they turn 5. The joy of cuddling up and reading to a child is supplemented by the child’s excitement when they receive their very own book parcel every month. So when should you introduce your child to books? As soon after birth as possible. That’s why the DPIL is a program for children from 0-5. Any child in their first year of life and resident in the Dungog Shire can enrol in the Dungog program. Clarence Town parents can pick up/fill out an enrolment form at the Post Office, just ask Dannii, Sam or Helena. Research shows that the areas where DPIL is operational have shown a marked improvement in literacy rates. The goal is for Dungog Shire to become a shire of readers leading to the success that follows on from that. The rollout of the DPIL in our Shire is being undertaken by Dungog Early Literacy Inc. Anyone able to assist them with a donation for this wonderful program should contact Lisa Connors on 0408 272 197. No donation is too small. Enrol your babies up to 12 months of age.
